BWShare Disabled
On the old server we installed the bwshare module on apache to help deal with limited resources. Our new server is very powerful so we have decided to disable the bwshare module.

AOL has completely lifted the ban on our IP address. The workaround I put in place has been removed. We now email directly to AOL (the workaround involved routing aol.com email through another mailserver).
AOL still is blocking our machine. They told me days ago that the block would be removed in 24-48 business hours. I’m starting to think that they literally mean 3-6 business days.
As a workaround I’m routing email bound for AOL through our old server. You should not be able to send to AOL again.
Thank you for your patience.
I received and email from AOL this morning stating that the ban on our IP address has been lifted. They said to expect the block to be lifted in the next 24-48 hours.
I’ve taken care of a bunch of major and minor issues related to the move. At this point the only major issue that I am aware of that is not resolved is that AOL is blocking email coming from our server. I suspect that the previous owners of this IP address either had their machine compromised or were spammers themselves. I’m working with AOL to rectify the problem.
If you see anything wrong, even if you aren’t sure, please email me immediately (greg-serverproblems at therowes.net).
Thank you for your patience. The move will be worth it. I’m impressed already with the performance.
The move to the new server is mostly complete and went mostly OK. There were a few remaining issues (see below). Email services should be working as well as web services. Please email your Rochester Geeks contact if you find problems. We may be aware of them but we might not.
Current issues:
- waiting on reverse DNS update for the new IP
- mailing list software is currently broken
I apologize for the incredibly short notice. I meant to notify everyone early this week but managed to forget.
On Saturday afternoon/evening I plan to migrate everything to the new server. If things don’t go well I’ll continue working on the transition Sunday morning.
Again, sorry for the short notice.
We are aware of the poor performance of the server lately. We are hoping to upgrade to a new system in early 2010.
This morning I updated to the latest stable release of roundcube email, one of our two web mail applications.
We successfullly installed a new kernel and the maintenance went exceedingly well. Total downtime was perhaps 10 minutes (if that).
